The 2010 all-new Ford Fusion has been completely restyled and improved both inside and out. Additionally, the fuel economy has been refined even further, making the Fusion the mid-size segment's best in gasoline economy, incredibly powerful V-6 engines available, and class-exclusive technologies throughout the design. The cabin has been contemporized and laden with the latest technology, including blind spot detection and warning with cross traffic alert, not to mention the surprisingly responsive voice-driven Ford SYNC system. New metallic trim finishes adorn the instrument panel, center console, doors and steering wheel, plus really nice ambient-blue backlighting to round-out the high tech, high luxury feel of the whole cabin. Occupancy space is abundant and comfortable, with new seats, more side support and smoother side bolsters. Most impressive is the hybrid Ford Fusion variant, with a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine producing 155hp and 136 lbs-ft of torque, and is perfectly matched with an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission and Intake Variable Cam Timing (iVCT), to enable seamless transitions from gas to electric and the reverse, while both spark and cam timing vary according to engine load in an attempt to optimize efficiency and reduce emissions. On the electric side of things is the new 275-volt nickel-metal hydride battery, designed smaller and lighter than before, but yielding a 20% increase in more power. All this technology produces a fine bottom line: a "normal" driving experience more like a traditional gas-only car with the benefits of 41 estimated MPG City and 36 estimate MPG highway. Impressive still, in this hybrid you have the potential to travel over 700 miles on a single tank of gas. Anyone considering a traditional mid-sized sedan can find a lot to like in the Ford Fusion, for those looking for a hybrid the answer is really a no-brainer. Ford has made a real winner with both the gas and hybrid variations of the all-new Ford Fusion. |
