Safety
AdvanceTrac® with RSC®
AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™)
is a class-exclusive standard feature on Ford Expedition.
AdvanceTrac® monitors driver input, road conditions and
slippage at all four wheels to deliver torque exactly where
it's needed. The patented RSC® system with unique roll
rate sensor measures roll motion, then applies individual ABS
brakes and reduces engine torque to help keep all 4 wheels firmly
planted. AdvanceTrac® with RSC® offers added confidence
in situations such as maneuvering to avoid something, driving on
slippery surfaces, or even just traveling on uneven surfaces such
as in construction zones.**Remember that even advanced technology
cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to
lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for
the conditions. Not available on fleet vehicles.
Safety Canopy™
Expedition provides comprehensive passive safety projection.
Included as standard equipment are front seat airbags,
side-impact airbags, plus the Safety Canopy™ system with
its large 2nd-generation side curtain airbags that enhance
protection for outboard occupants in all three rows. In the event
of an accident, Ford Expedition has you and your family well
covered.
Reverse Sensing System
The available Reverse Sensing System uses an audible signal to
alert you to an obstacle up to 6 ft. from the rear when slowing
backing up. It's available on Expedition XLT and Eddie Bauer
in the optional Convenience Package, and is standard equipment on
Expedition Limited and new King Ranch.
Rear View Camera
Now you can get a clear picture of what's behind you with
the new Rear View Camera option. When you activate the camera
(mounted on the liftgate) with a switch on the instrument panel,
it transmits the image to your rearview mirror.
NHTSA 5-Star Frontal Crash Test Rating
For eight straight years, Ford Expedition has received the
highest 5-star frontal crash test rating* for the driver and
right front passenger from the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA). The extended-length Expedition EL,
introduced in 2007, has earned the same NHTSA rating.*
*Government star ratings are part of the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car
Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov).
Power
5.4L Triton® V8
The 5.4L Triton® V8 is engineered to put the torque where
it's needed most, delivering 90 percent at or below 2000 rpm.
Multi-valve technology (3 valves per cylinder) allows the engine
to breathe more freely, increasing horsepower. The 5.4L
Triton® generates 300 horsepower and 365 lb.-ft of torque,
delivering all the power you'd ever need, even if you're
towing a big Class III or IV boat or camper-trailer.
6-Speed Automatic Transmission
The awesome power of the 5.4L Triton® V8 is transmitted to
the drive wheels by way of a class-exclusive 6-speed automatic
transmission. The wide 6-gear spread helps the engine generate
lots of low-end torque (for tasks such as trailer towing) and
provide efficient operation in 6th gear overdrive on the highway.
Shifting is smooth and comfortable.
Towing Package
Few vehicles rival a full-size SUV in its ability to tow a
large boat or camper-trailer. The 5.4L Triton® V8's 300
horsepower and 365 pounds-feet of torque give the Expedition 4x2
regular-length model a maximum 9,200-lb. towing capacity when
properly equipped with the available Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow
Package. For family recreation, Expedition is pretty hard to
beat.
Interior Space
DVD Entertainment System
The available Rear Seat DVD Entertainment System is perfect
for movies or gaming fun and provides hours of enjoyment,
especially on a long trip. It comes with an 8" LCD monitor
and 2 sets of wireless headphones, and a remote control.
PowerFold™ 3rd-row seat
Expedition's first-in-class PowerFold™ 3rd-row seat
folds flat and makes room for extra cargo at the simple touch of
a button. It's optional in XLT; standard in Eddie Bauer,
Limited, and new King Ranch.
Cargo Space
The 2008 Expedition EL (Extended Length) provides all the
versatility of the regular-length Expedition plus 24 additional
cu. ft. of cargo space.* The EL can pack it all in so you can
take more with you on your family adventures. *Cargo and load
capacity limited by weight and weight distribution.
3rd-Row Legroom
3rd-row comfort in an SUV shouldn't be an afterthought.
That's why Ford Expedition was designed to provide the most
3rd-row legroom of any full-size vehicle in its class. When it
comes to comfort, you should never have to take a back seat to
anyone.
Capability
Independent Rear Suspension
Ford Expedition delivers an exceptionally smooth ride. A big
reason is the first-in-class Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)
that allows each wheel to respond independently to rough or
uneven surfaces for a smooth and controlled ride.
ControlTrac™ 4x4 System
ControlTrac™, the standard system on the available
Expedition 4x4, provides greater control in situations requiring
added traction capability by dividing engine torque
front-to-rear. Turning a rotary knob lets you (1) drive in high
or low 4-wheel drive mode, (2) switch to 4x4 AUTO which
automatically optimizes traction by transferring power to the
appropriate wheels, or (3) shift into more economical 2-wheel
drive.
Power Liftgate
Expedition's available Power Liftgate gets you
tailgating-ready in one easy step. A simple touch of a button
lets you access the cargo area in an instant. Whether you're
loading gear or making the most of game day, liftgate operation
has never been so convenient.
Power Running Boards
All Expedition models come equipped with standard running
boards (Eddie Bauer Pueblo Gold color shown). Now available are
power-deployable running boards, a new optional feature added to
Expedition's long list of power accessories. When you open
your door, the running board automatically extends, and retracts
when you close it.
