Standard AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability
Control™) offers added confidence in a variety of driving
situations, such as when you're maneuvering to avoid
something in the road, driving on slippery surfaces like snowy,
muddy, wet or gravel roads, or even just traveling on uneven
surfaces such as in construction zones.
Intelligent Safety System™
Explorer's standard Intelligent Safety System™ lives
up to its name. The innovative system processes information from
a suite of sophisticated sensors and adjusts the performance of
Explorer's first-in-class adaptive load-limiting safety belt
retractors, driver and front-passenger airbags, and
first-in-class adaptive steering column to enhance protection in
the event of certain frontal collisions.
Safety Canopy™
The Safety Canopy™ System with side curtain airbags is
standard equipment on all 2008 Explorer models. Along with
adaptive front seat airbags and side airbags for the driver and
front passenger, the Safety Canopy™ System provides
comprehensive airbag coverage.
5-Star Safety
For three straight years, Ford Explorer has received
NHTSA's 5-star crash test rating* for all four crash seating
positions (driver and right front passenger for frontal crash,
and front and rear seating positions for side-impact). Explorer

Fold-Flat 3rd-Row Seat
Explorer's available fold-flat 3rd-row seat features a
convenient 50/50 split design so you can fold one or both seat
backs, depending on your cargo-carrying needs. In addition, the
2nd-row seats fold and tumble to provide easy access to the
3rd-row seating.
PowerFold™ 3rd-row seat
Make room for extra cargo in an instant. The class-exclusive
PowerFold™ 3rd-row seat folds flat at the touch of a
button. The controls are conveniently located just inside the
cargo area. Optional on Eddie Bauer and Limited.
18" Aluminum Wheels
Add a finishing touch to Explorer's rugged good looks.
Standard on Limited and optional on Eddie Bauer are 18"
chrome-clad aluminum wheels.
Ironman® Package
Tough-looking as its namesake competition, the Ironman®

DVD Entertainment System
Explorer's available DVD Entertainment System makes
getting to wherever you're going a lot more fun. The system
comes with an 8" color LCD screen, two sets of wireless
headphones and a remote control.
Available New Navigation System
The available voice-activated DVD-Based Navigation System puts
state-of-the-art electronics at your fingertips to help you get
to where you're going easily. It combines DVD mapping with
Global Positioning System (GPS) technology; features an 6.5-inch
color LCD screen with high-quality graphics, voice guidance
feature, plus touch-screen simplicity for ease of use.

4.6L V8 Engine
Explorer is up for any adventure on the agenda. The available
4.6L V8 engine features 3 valves per cylinder plus variable cam
timing. Teamed with a 6-speed automatic transmission, it cranks
out a formidable 292 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque.
6-Speed Transmission
Explorer's powerful 3-valve V8 engine is paired with a
first-in-class 6-speed transmission that improves fuel economy by
up to 10% over the previous V8 powertrain. The 4.6L 3V V8 has
EPA-estimated 13 city/20 hwy mpg (4x2) and 13 city/19 hwy mpg
(4x4) ratings.
Control Trac® 4WD System
Whether you're battling the elements or navigating
construction zones, Explorer has you covered. The available
Control Trac® 4WD System delivers surefooted control on any
road. Choose the 4x4 AUTO setting for everyday driving and 4x4
LOW for serious off-road ventures. When you need extra traction,
such as on icy roads or in snow or off-road situations, kick it
up to 4x4 HIGH.
Towing Capacity
Bring your favorite recreation vehicles along on your next
trek. When properly equipped, Explorer 4X2 has a maximum towing
capacity of 7,310 lbs.
