Towing
No other pickup in its class can tow more
Whether you're towing for work or recreation, you'll
want F-150 pulling for you. No other pickup in its class tows
more. With max towing of 11,000 pounds it can get you and your
gear there confidently.
*Regular Cab, properly equipped. Class is full-size pickups
under 8,500 lbs. GVWR.
5.4L V8 is all about towing power and torque
The available 5.4L Triton® V8 features two intake valves
per cylinder which, combined with variable valve timing, tailors
performance to engine speed and load. More low-speed torque to
get big loads under way. More high-speed power for passing
acceleration and efficient highway cruising.
Telescoping trailer towing mirrors
F-150 offers optional telescoping trailer tow mirrors on its
various series with a variety of features from manual to power
glass, body color to chrome. All provide the ability to extend
the mirror farther out from the truck to deliver a better angle
to see what's going on behind you. They're available with
all series.
Eyes in the back of your F-150
New for 2008 on XLT, FX2 SPORT, FX4 and Lariat is the optional
Reverse Camera System. It displays a wide view for backing up as
well as a clear picture of the hitch - helpful when hooking up
the trailer. The camera is mounted in the tailgate handle and
monitored in the self-dimming interior rearview mirror - for easy
line of sight where you need to be looking when backing up.
Styleside models only.
Tow More with the Available Trailer Tow Package
F-150's Trailer Tow Package is an option on all vehicle
models. It includes a Class IV trailer hitch receiver, 7-pin
wiring harness, upgraded radiator (4.6L or 5.4L engines) and
upgraded auxiliary transmission oil cooler (with automatic
transmission).
Capability
Properly equipped, the most capable light-duty pickup
F-150 has best-in-class payload capability* - shouldering a
massive maximum 3,080 lb. load. And there's no getting around
it ... a bigger payload can mean fewer trips, saving time and
money!
*Class is full-size pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR. When
properly equipped.
No pickup in its class can carry more
Not only does F-150 have best-in-class payload, it also has
the biggest cargo volume* - more than sixty five and a half cubic
feet. That's a powerful 1-2 punch when it comes to getting
the job done!
*Regular Cab, properly equipped.
F-150 goes to great lengths
How much is long enough? With F-150, choose a standard
5.5' cargo box (Styleside only), the new optional 6.5'
box, or the optional big 8-footer (Styleside only). There's
bound to be one to fit your needs.
*Regular Cab, properly equipped.
Power where you might not even notice it
F-150's easily accessible tow hooks use the "closed
loop" design as opposed to competitors' hooks, which may
pull out or break.
Engineering
The strongest frame in its class
Ford tough begins here, with the strongest frame in its class,
a frame proven to stand up to the biggest jobs time and time
again. The crossmembers that form the ladder-type construction of
the frame pass through both sides of the fully boxed frame rail
and are welded to both the inner and outer edges. The front frame
rails themselves are constructed using Hydroforming technology,
which produces precise frame wall thickness without the inherent
stresses and dimensional variations of stamping or welding.
That's not tough. That's Ford tough.
The government's highest frontal crash test rating
The manufacturing technology discussed in the previous section
earned Ford F-150 the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administrations' top rating of Five Stars for the driver and
right-front passenger in the 2007 frontal crash category.*
*Star ratings are part of the U.S. Department of
Transportation's Safecar.gov Program (www.safercar.gov).
Better control from a better position
Conventional truck wisdom would have you mount the shock
absorbers inboard. It doesn't work badly, but in the interest
if refinement, we have moved them outboard. It improves
stability, comfort and control.
Sometimes you like a little peace and quiet
A total sound engineering approach helped create a quiet cabin
for driver and passenger alike. Stiffer frame and body, shear
style body mounts, thicker side glass, door seals, special sound
insulation and Quiet Steel®* work together to reduce unwanted
noise and vibration. But a quiet cabin isn't the only benefit
of a strong frame. It also helped F-150 earn the National Highway
traffic Safety Administrations' top rating of Five Stars for
the driver and right-front passenger in the 2007 frontal crash
category.**

Transportation's Safecar.gov Program (www.safercar.gov).
Enviroment
Flex Fuel: an inspired no-cost option with the 5.4L engine
Our concern for the environment goes back a long way, and the
Flexible Fuel F-150 has actually been around for years. But as
E85 fuel is becoming more plentiful, the F-150 FFV is now a
no-cost option. Cleaner burning, it's easier on the air we
breathe.
Your engines knows exactly what it needs
It's the job of the powertrain control module to ensure
that whatever mixture is in the fuel tank (pure gasoline, E85 or
pure ethanol), the engine is running at an optimal level for the
mix.
Peace of mind is a by-product of flexibility
The F-150 FFV with the 5.4L engine can run on unleaded
gasoline, E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) or any mix of the
two. That's true flexibility. While E85 is becoming more
common, with the 2008 F-150 you can enjoy the benefits of E85
alternative fuel with the peace of mind that you can fill up
anywhere the road takes you.
