Engineering
Tough and Economical
At 21 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway, Ford
Ranger will help you get where you're going with some money
left in your pocket to spend when you arrive.
Shift on the Fly 4x4ing
An electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case is standard
equipment with Ranger 4x4 models, allowing an easy and quick 4WD
engagement that doesn't require stopping the vehicle.
A Suspension to match the intention
Ranger's independent short/long arm front suspension with
stabilizer bar keeps the ride smooth under normal driving
conditions for XL and XLT 4x2. But for rougher going, a front
torsion bar is substituted on XL and XLT 4x4; select Sport and
FX4, vehicles more likely to off-road it. The 4x4s also get
jolt-absorbing heavy-duty gas shocks.
Efficient transmissions
Both Ranger transmission choices, manual and automatic, have
an overdrive 5th gear that helps conserve fuel while cruising at
highway speeds. Ranger's transmissions play a big part in
achieving Ranger's best-in-class fuel economy. Excludes other
Ford Motor Company vehicles.
Versatility
That's Cool
It seems Ranger has a special affinity for beaches and warm
weather. If it gets too warm, just switch on the air conditioning
and chill out. It's available with XL and standard in all
other models.
Cruise Control
Standard on FX4 Off-Road, the convenience of cruise control
and a tilt steering wheel are also available for the other Ranger
models (a leather-wrapped steering wheel is included on XLT and
FX4).
Awaiting your Input
All Ranger CD/MP3/SAT-capable audio systems provide a standard
audio input jack. The jack allows any portable MP3 player with a
standard 3.5-millimeter audio output to be brought into the
vehicle and played through the audio system.
Powerful, High-fidelity Sound
The optional Pioneer® 290-watt Sound System features a
6-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3/SAT capability, audio input
jack and AM/FM receiver. A center console-mounted 6.5"
subwoofer, 5 1/4" polypropylene mid-range speakers with
separate 3/4" soft dome tweeters, and 6"x8"
dual-cone full-range speakers deliver outstanding fidelity. Not
available with XL.
Safety and Security
Personal Safety System
The Personal Safety System,® standard on all Ranger
models, includes a Front Passenger Sensing System and dual-stage
driver and front passenger airbags. Also standard are a Tire
Pressure Monitoring System and the SecuriLock® passive
anti-theft ignition system.
The Confidence of 4-Wheel ABS
Standard equipment on all Ranger pickups is a 4-wheel disc
Anti-Lock Braking System, which helps you maintain control while
braking under a variety of driving conditions.
Latch Attachment Provision
Ranger provides a right front passenger child safety seat
lower anchor (LATCH) for the proper installation of the child
safety seat.
Fuel Pump Inertia Shutoff
In the event of a roll or other condition, the fuel pump
automatically shuts off.
Capability
Longer Cargo Box
Ranger is the only compact pickup to offer a 7-foot-long box,
which allows it to carry more (and longer) cargo. A 6-foot cargo
box is standard.
Eager to Tow
Class III trailer towing is available for select Ranger models
equipped with the V6 engine, allowing towing up to 6,000 pounds
(properly equipped).
